“Let Them Stim!”
Let them stim, is the movement that is eliminating the social norm of bullying, harassing, stopping or punishing neurodivergent people away from being comfortable with stimming.
It is important for all people to foster growth, and in order to do that we must foster the physical and emotional safety of neurodivergent people to self-sooth, emotionally regulate or even just get excited in their own unique way.
Just because it may look “different,” doesn’t mean its wrong.
Stimming is an essential tool.
“Stimming”- Is repetitive physical movements, sounds, or actions that individuals engage in to regulate sensory input, express emotions, or manage stress.
Examples of stimming behaviors include:
• Physical movements: Hand-flapping, rocking back and forth, spinning, or pacing.
• Vocalizations: Repeating certain words, phrases, or sounds, humming, or echolalia (repetition of others’ speech).
• Tactile behaviors: Rubbing hands together, tapping fingers, or playing with objects like fidget toys.
• Visual stimulation: Watching spinning objects, flicking fingers in front of the eyes, or staring at patterns.
